Get ready to thank those who battle the blaze of wildfires!

Thank you for your gift of time today. Wildland firefighters across the United States are battling wildfires to save our land and communities. They spend 16+ hours daily in 100-degrees and dangerous conditions, carrying 45 pounds on their back and digging lines. These individuals choose to be out there, putting their lives on the line. Now, it’s our chance to say thank you!

Learn more about how fires happen, why they have increased, and what it takes to fight them. We want to take a moment to learn about the challenge and thank the wildland firefighters who choose to do this noble work.

Watch this recording post event to create your soaps!
We work to keep things as simple as possible. If you have any questions, please get in touch with your event coordinator or reach out to “Kai” (WeHero Super Dog) in the lower-right corner of this page.
Note: We use 2 beaker sizes for this event based on availability of materials from vendors. There is a 500 ml size and a 250 ml size. If you received the smaller 250 ml size, we will be doing two batches of soap making (3 soap bars at a time).
We’ve provided 20 activated charcoal capsules. Holding the capsule horizontally over a microwave-safe bowl, carefully separate the two halves and pour the powder into the container. If the capsule does not open, scissors can snip off one end and pour the powder out.
Note: This powder can be messy! Remove it by brushing or wiping it with a wet cloth if you get it on the counter.
You will be making six bars of soap. Place the soap base (you may need to cut it in half to fit it in a microwave-safe vessel) in the microwave. Heat it in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted.
Now we add our activated charcoal. Use the stir stick to mix the powder into the slightly cooled soap until it’s fully blended with no lumps remaining. Note: The melted soap-based will begin to cool and harden quickly! Keep stirring the liquid, so it does not start to set. If it does, reheat the soap for 10-15 seconds.
Once the charcoal powder is fully dispersed, add 10-15 drops of the essential oil provided in the pack. The more drops you add, the more powerful the scent! Remember to stir it in.
Next, pour your charcoal soap mixture into the soap mold. Let the charcoal soap bars cool and harden. After 24 hours at room temperature, they will set (no need to use a fridge or freezer).
Note: This may be messy! If you spill the liquid soap base on a countertop, wipe it up immediately. If it hardens, scrape it off with a plastic spatula or another utensil that won’t scratch the surface.
You've been given two sheets of kraft paper to wrap your soap. Before you wrap it, take a moment to write a thank-you letter to the wildfire fighters who will receive your soap. It's a great opportunity to show your gratitude for their hard work and dedication to saving our forests. After you've written your letter, remove the hardened soap from the mold and wrap it with the paper.
Using the original box everything came in, add the completed soap bars and reseal. Attach the prepaid shipping label and schedule your USPS pickup. You can also drop your box off at your local post office. To schedule your pickup, simply use the following link and follow the steps: www.wehero.co/pick-up/
Note: If the system asks for weight, you can enter 6 pounds and the shipping provider will update the weight automatically.
Take a photo of yourself with your completed soap bars and share the experience with your friends and family. Take the opportunity to spread awareness and share this act of kindness. Be sure to tag WeHero when you post on social media!

We’ve got a great podcast recommendation to jump-start learning about wildfires and support our communities.

We build our volunteer events to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Whether it is offsetting the carbon emissions of the shipping process, using recycled cardboard for the boxes, or relying on algae based dyes, we’ve made conscious steps to ensure we’re doing right for our world.

We have partnered with Cool Effect on The Mare Chicose landfill project in Mauritius to reduce methane emissions, generate electricity, create jobs, and promote sustainable development. Investing in the project helps reduce our carbon footprint and support global climate change mitigation.
