Empowering young women one skateboard at a time.

First and foremost,
thank you

Your gift of time today will impact the lives of children looking to belong and succeed in their local communities. Skateboarding is a significant tool to engage youth in after-school programming and enable them to develop a growth mindset. For young women, it’s an opportunity to break into a sport that they likely haven’t had access to. You are now part of this movement, so thank you!

Instructions

Building Your Skateboard

You will need the following items for building your skateboard:

Deck
2x Trucks (axles)
4x Wheels
8x Bearings (Ball bearings)
Spacers (metal spacer between bearings)
Skateboard Tool

Step 1:

Insert the screws from the top into the holes of the deck.

Step 2:

Attach the trucks to the screws. The kingpin should be facing the middle of the deck.

Step 3:

Tighten the bolts and nuts using a skate tool. Most tools have Allen and Phillips keys that make assembly really easy. Use the key to hold the screws in place and the skate tool to tighten the nuts. Hold the key still and turn the tool to tighten.

Step 4:

Remove the nut and the top speed ring (washer) from the truck axle and put the first bearing on the axle. If you use bearings without shields, make sure the cover is facing outwards.

Step 5:

Push the wheel onto the bearing until the bearing is firmly situated in the core of the wheel. Don't apply too much pressure to avoid damaging the bearings and wheel core. You might hear a slight click when the bearing slips into place.

Step 6:

Check that the bearing in the wheel is sitting perfectly straight, not crooked.

Step 7:

Now put the second bearing and spacer on the axle.

Step 8:

Repeat steps 10, 11 and 12 for all 4 wheels.

Step 9:

Now put the wheel and the speed ring on the axle and tighten the axle nut. Make sure not to over-tighten the axle nut so that you don’t damage the bearings.

Step 10:

You’ve finished your board build! To personalize your board, write a letter on the provided index card to your recipient. Then, re-package the board in the same box everything came in and attach the pre-paid shipping label over the original shipping label. You can then schedule a pick up at a date and time that works best for you with the following link or drop the box off at your local post office.
