Learn about the status of your local tree canopy, raise awareness around deforestation, and of course… plant trees!

Thank you for participating in the Reforestation Project. Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. They also provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.
Our Goal: Raise awareness of the importance of taking care of our environment while actually doing it! Through this event, we’re planting trees- baby giant sequoias- not just any trees! These are some of the world's most robust and durable trees, not to mention their natural beauty. One tree can sequester 250 tons of carbon in its lifetime. With this event, you will plant one tree yourself, and WeHero and One Tree Planted will plant another nine. Thanks for bringing ten trees into the world!

We work to keep things as simple as possible. If you have any questions, please get in touch with your event coordinator or reach out to “Kai” (WeHero Super Dog) in the lower-right corner of this page.

Add the soil bag from the kit to the mini greenhouse container. Be careful not to pack the soil too tightly; leave it loose to create an adequate base to help root the seeds.
Add water to the soil in the mini greenhouse. Adding more water than needed is okay because the excess water will drain out of the base. Ensure you have a plate or towel underneath to capture the excess water. You can also flip the lid from the germination container as a base plate.
Once the excess water has drained from the soil, sow the seeds. Open the bag containing the seeds and pour all of them into the center of your mini greenhouse, directly on top of the wet soil. Use all the seeds in the bag to increase your chance of germination success.
Open the bag of perlite (or pebbles) and add them to the mini greenhouse on top of the seeds. This help improves aeration and prevents soil compaction. Afterward, cover your mini greenhouse with the top cap.
After completing the planting process, put the seeds in the proper environment by placing the mini greenhouse in the fridge. This imitates mother nature with a technique called cold stratification. Leave it in the refrigerator for 20 days.
After 20 days, remove your seeds from the fridge and place the mini greenhouse in a sunny area, such as a windowsill. Keep the seeds moist, and germination will occur in 15-45 days. You should start to see the giant sequoia sprouts!
Give your sprouts plenty of light and let them dry out between waterings. Once your sprout becomes an inch tall, remove the cap for ventilation and to promote growth.

See your emissions in less than 2 minutes and offset your carbon footprint!

We build our volunteer events to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Whether it is offsetting the carbon emissions of the shipping process, using recycled cardboard for the boxes, or relying on algae based dyes, we’ve made conscious steps to ensure we’re doing right for our world.
