Make a simple bread to give to others while learning about how to help communities across the globe.

Thank you. We are supporting the Bread House network through baking bread.
With the inspiration to bring peace and simple humaneness around bread-baking, the first Bread House was born as an innovative community cultural center in 2009 in Bulgaria, and from there the model has now inspired communities and expanded to more than 15 countries on 5 continents.

We will be learning how to make bread to be shared with family and friends whilst learning the power of uniting communities. A donation will be placed on behalf of each participant for the BreadHouse network. From this experience, each participant will be able to share their bread and have a basil-seed card included to gift this to a friend or family member to share the power of bread and celebrate coming together.

We work to keep things as simple as possible. If you have any questions, please get in touch with your event coordinator or reach out to “Kai” (WeHero Super Dog) in the lower-right corner of this page.
Your materials: You will have been provided a package of chickpea flour, za'taar seasoning, a basil seed paper and marker.
Additional required materials include water, oil, salt and pepper and access to a stove or hot plate.
Ingredients for one bread:
1 cup chickpea flour
1 cup water
1¾ tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
½ teaspoon sea salt
When you’re ready to cook, whisk together the chickpea flour, water, olive oil, and salt into a large bowl. The socca batter should be smooth, so whisk until there aren’t any lumps. Then, set it aside to soak for 30 minutes. This is for one bread, feel free to make the second socca at the same time!
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 475 with a 10-inch cast-iron pan inside it.
When the batter’s ready, give it a good mix and remove the pan from the oven (careful, it’ll be hot!). Brush it with 3/4 tablespoons of oil. Pour in the batter, and transfer the skillet to the oven. Bake until the socca is well-browned and crisp around the edges (around 17 – 20 minutes).
We recommend a cast iron skillet but you can use any flat, shallow and oven-safe baking dish you have on hand.
Top it with a drizzle of olive oil and za’atar for an easy, flavorful appetizer.
Allow the socca to cool slightly before you use a spatula to remove it from the skillet. Then, dig in while it’s still hot!
Socca is best hot from the oven, when the edges are still nice and crisp. If you have leftovers, store them at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze them for longer storage. Reheat them on a baking sheet in a 400-degree oven until the edges become crisp again.
After you have made both breads. It's time to write your letter to a friend or someone you would like to gift the second bread to!
Take a photo of yourself with your completed socca and share the experience with your friends and family. This is an opportunity to spread awareness and share the act of kindness. Be sure to tag WeHero when you post on social media!

We’ve got a great podcast recommendation to jump-start learning about wildfires and support our communities.

We build our volunteer events to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Whether it is offsetting the carbon emissions of the shipping process, using recycled cardboard for the boxes, or relying on algae based dyes, we’ve made conscious steps to ensure we’re doing right for our world.

We have partnered with Cool Effect on The Mare Chicose landfill project in Mauritius to reduce methane emissions, generate electricity, create jobs, and promote sustainable development. Investing in the project helps reduce our carbon footprint and support global climate change mitigation.
