Thank you. Your gift of time today will impact children excited to have hope and support. Children are moved from foster home to foster home, often separated from their siblings, and not encouraged to develop professional skills. Only 50% of youth in U.S. foster care graduate from high school, and only 3% earn a bachelor’s degree. WeHero, alongside our corporate and non-profit partners, are aggressively trying to resolve this issue. You are now part of this movement, so thank you!
The Experience – First step, we want to educate you about the challenges children face in the foster care system worldwide and the incredible work that various nonprofits do to support them. After watching an educational keynote about the cause, you will assemble a welcome-home pack, decorate a letter and box, and pack a bag full of necessities for the children.

What was your favorite part of the activity?
Step 1: Time to decorate
Moving from home to home can be challenging. Help us comfort these children by making them a special welcome pack. We encourage you to write a heartfelt letter and draw a simple picture on the wooden box. These touches make each pack special. We can’t wait to see what you create!
Step 2: Add all the items to each bag
The inventory below lists the items that go into the bag. The felt markers are yours to keep and don’t need to go into the bags.

Step 3: Letter writing
One of the most important touches to the packs. The children who receive these packs may not have a lot of emotional support. Inspire them! Use the WeHero stantionary to write them a short letter. It can be very impactful to know that someone is thinking of you.

Step 4: Re-box and apply the shipping label
Using the original box everything came in, add the completed packs, and reseal the box. Attach the prepaid shipping label and schedule your USPS pickup. You can also drop your box off at your local post office. To schedule your pickup, simply use the following link and follow the steps: www.wehero.co/pick-up/
Note: If the system asks for weight, you can enter 6 pounds and the shipping provider will update the weight automatically.
Step 5: Photo time!
Take a photo of yourself with your completed packs and share the experience with your friends and family. Take this opportunity to spread awareness and share this act of kindness. Be sure to tag WeHero when you post on social media!

We build our volunteer events to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Whether it is offsetting the carbon emissions of the shipping process, using recycled cardboard for the boxes, or relying on algae based dyes, we’ve made conscious steps to ensure we’re doing right for our world.
How we offset our carbon footprint
We have partnered with Cool Effect on The Mare Chicose landfill project in Mauritius to reduce methane emissions, generate electricity, create jobs, and promote sustainable development. Investing in the project helps reduce our carbon footprint and support global climate change mitigation.
