Get ready to support girls to choose love on their own terms.

Every year, 12 million girls are married before they turn 18. VOW for Girls is a growing global movement that partners with brands, individuals, engaged couples and the wedding industry to end the international child marriage crisis.
Now, it's your chance to take action. We can create a beautifully designed hand-embroidered keepsake while connecting to VOW for Girls' mission whose efforts include advancing girls' rights by providing education, job training, and vital life skills.
Thank you for showing up.

To learn more about the child marriage crisis and the impact VOW for Girls is making to make sure every girl has the chance to live a life she loves. We will tap into our creativity to create an inspiring message through embroidery to remind ourselves of VOW for Girls' mission and the work they are taking part in all over the world.

We work to keep things as simple as possible. If you have any questions, please get in touch with your event coordinator or reach out to “Kai” (WeHero Super Dog) in the lower-right corner of this page.

1. Your embroidery floss has six strands, three on each side. Separate the strands evenly down the middle. Go slowly to minimize knotting.
2. Once you have split your floss, thread the needle with one half. Once you have threaded through the eye, tie the two separate strands together at the end of the thread to form a knot.
1. Firmly lock the patterned fabric into the hoop, so it will not move as you sew. Once you lock in the embroidery, please tighten it so it's firm and easy to embroider.
This is a basic sewing stitch: it is perfect for borders and outlines.
1. Have the needle come up through the back of the hoop. Pull the needle and thread all the way up.
2. Go back down into the fabric at the designated point of the pattern, Pull the thread and needle all the way through. Come back up through the back, about a stitch length from the first stitch. You’ve made your first running stitch!
3. Keep repeating this process until the line is complete and tie a knot in the thread to keep the line in place.
1. For the back stitch, just like the running stitch - have the needle come up through the back of the hoop. Pull the needle and thread all the way up. Go back down into the fabric at the designated point of the pattern, Pull the thread and needle all the way through.
2. Come back up through the back, about a stitch length from the first stitch. Next, bring your needle back down into the same hole at the end of the last stitch you made. You’ve made your back stitch!
3. Then, come back up a stitch length away through the back and pull the thread through.Go back down through the same hole used to end the second stitch. Then come up, a stitch length away from the back-same thing! Repeat this process until the line or word is complete.
This is a basic sewing stitch: it is perfect for borders and outlines.
1. For the satin stitch, have the needle come up through the back of the hoop. Pull the needle and thread all the way up. We’re going to make a line of the shape you are filling in.
2. Bring the needle and thread through the top line of the shape. You’ve made your first satin stitch!
3. Then come back through the bottom of the shape, next to the initial stitch you made. Pull through, then go back through the top of the shape, next to the previous stitch. Continue this process until the shape has been made.
Once you complete the embroidery section, use the two threads and tie a simple knot on the back of the embroidery pattern for each section of thread.
1. To finish the hoop, trim the excess fabric along the back to be about an inch or two, and then you can use a running stitch to tighten the fabric on the front of the hoop.
2. The design is drawn on with a pen that disappears in high heat. Run a blow dryer or iron over the product to get rid of any stray design outlines.
3. Hang your embroidery as wall-art, gift it to someone or turn it into a pillow!
Take a photo of yourself with your completed embroidery hoop and share the experience with your friends and family. This is an opportunity to spread awareness, so be sure to tag @VOWForGirls when you post on social media!

Have 32 seconds? We always want to make these experiences better and would love your feedback.

We build our volunteer events to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Whether it is offsetting the carbon emissions of the shipping process, using recycled cardboard for the boxes, or relying on algae based dyes, we’ve made conscious steps to ensure we’re doing right for our world.

We have partnered with Cool Effect on The Mare Chicose landfill project in Mauritius to reduce methane emissions, generate electricity, create jobs, and promote sustainable development. Investing in the project helps reduce our carbon footprint and support global climate change mitigation.
